Last night we celebrated the release of Contrast Magazine's 04 issue in downtown Honolulu... specifically at Thirtynine Hotel and Nextdoor. Free Vodka samples, disco balls, great music, girl crushing, family & childhood classmate reunions, good conversations, people watching, taking a blast to the past, 80's & 90's nostalgia, bringing back cassette tapes & remembering midnight make-out sessions... it was a lot of fun. Surprisingly, I didn't take too many photos, but here's a few that I did take. Where ever you were last night, hope you had a great one.

Here are some old photos taken on my Holga from Contrast Magazine's Dawn Patrol Fashion Shoot feat. Mahina B.
This past weekend I did a last minute photo shoot for Contrast Magazine's new online store, where you can purchase your very own Contrast Magazine Tee-Shirt and back issues! Thank you so much to my friend, Noah, who graciously accepted to be my model for the day. He was a great sport and a real natural. He doesn't know it yet, but he's been recruited as my regular model/victim for future photo shoots!

Been meaning to post this, but I've been laggin' on the blog postings as of late. I recently had a spread in the latest issue of Contrast Magazine... We Own the Night: The streets of Downtown, Honolulu light up every First Friday of the month. If you haven't picked up the latest "Downtown" issue of Contrast Magazine, go get one!
All photos taken with my Leica D-Lux 4.
If I could have been any mutant of my choice on the night of 3DEEP, I would have been that guy on X-Men: The Last Stand, who robbed seven banks all at the same time… that way, I could have been at all three venues at once!

Brooklyn Dombroski posted some outtakes from Contrast Magazine's upcoming fashion spread... The Morning After on her blog... some real chicken skin stuff, I tell you! Check it out here... you'll be amazed. I love you, Brooke!

When I got the word that Contrast’s fashion shoot for the upcoming issue had been scheduled on a Monday, I quickly turned in my vacation papers and thought nothing of it… there was no way I was going to miss this shoot, and I can honestly say that I’m so glad I didn’t. The concept of this fashion spread... "The Morning After"... is based on the idea of girls wearing nothing but guys tee shirts. Why are these girls only in guys tee shirts, you ask? Well… that’s where your imagination comes into play… the full truth may never be revealed, but I’m sure you’ll be able to cook up a great story in your head as to what events may have led up to "The Morning After". Brooke Dombroski (amazing photographer, graphic designer, artist… just all around amazing girl) rallied up her peeps to make this shoot not only possible, but ultimately a complete success. She managed to get a full team involved with this shoot, which consisted of four shmokin’ hot models, an awesome and truly talented hair & make up artist, and several friends & strangers even, who graciously provided their homes/apartments for locations. From a gorgeous Chinatown high rise, to the sketchy back roads of Kalihi which led to a Nacho Libre-like bachelor pad disguised as some kind of underground nail spa, then following the sounds of music to an empty but cozy Pauoa home, and finally ending by switching up the scenery with the beautiful ocean backdrop at Rock Piles, as onlookers and potential pervs watched… the day was long, yet it went by so fast. I tell you, these fashion shoots keep getting better and better each time! Enjoy these “behind the scenes” polaroids.

... guys, you DON'T want to miss this next fashion spread... you'd be a barney if you did.
Today was a LONG day. I took a vacation day from work so I could be available for Contrast's fashion shoot for the upcoming issue. We were so fortunate & especially grateful to have such a great team for this shoot; Brooke Dombroski photographed, Lena Hanson did hair and make up, and four BEAUTIFUL models did their thang & WORKED IT! Can't wait to see the pics! Here's a polaroid I took of the city view from one of the locations we shot at. I'll post some teasers later, stay tuned.
I got up extra early this morning to tune into Sunrise on KGMB9. Actually, watching Sunrise each morning as I get ready for work is my daily morning ritual, however, today was exceptionally special, as KGMB9's Steve Uyehara (a.k.a. my secret, now not-so-secret puppy crush) talked to editor Daniel Ito, photo editor Lance Arinaga and marketing director Jason Shibata of Contrast Magazine. If you missed it, watch it here: CNTRST X KGMB9
Noticed this hottie standing outside of a small hair salon on my way to Kaimuki Camera today.... she definitely caught my attention... I just had to take a quick snapshot. When we peeked through the window of the salon, we noticed some issues of Contrast Magazine laid out on their glass coffee table! Chee!
Contrast Magazine is having their next issue launch party on Saturday, May 23rd at The Loft! Looking forward to it! If you're in the 808 area code on the island of Oahu, please stop by if you can!
Back in February this year, a couple of us at Contrast Magazine set out on a dawn patrol fashion photo shoot in the North Shore of Hawaii, featuring model/friend, Mahina B. Here's one of the photos I developed from my Holga. Issue 01 - The North Shore, is currently in print and you should be seeing it out very soon. See more of Mahina B. here!
